Description:
Medium-sized reed-warbler with noticeably large and strong bill, long narrow tail with pointed feathers, rounded wingtip. Very similar to Blyth's Reed. Usually less olive, more rufous-tinged on upperparts than Blyth's Reed; underparts are strongly washed with olive-buff, sides are more olive-brown, and throat is pale creamy olive.
Distribution:
Vagrant to the south-western parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, absent from Hunza, Nagar and Baltistan. Breeds in thickets of sea-buckthorn and willows, near river banks and other wet areas in alluvial plains or mountain valleys. Up to 2500m in summers.
Behavior:
Forages low down in thick vegetation and reeds, where hops in manner of a mouse or wren through bases of vegetation and undergrowth. Food mainly consist of small invertebrates. Small flies, mayflies and caddis flies seem to constitute the most important prey. Also seeds of aquatic plants.
